Iain Kerr - Champion of the Young
From his regular radio appearances on ‘CHILDREN’S HOUR’ from radio 4ZB Dunedin (NZ), Iain has always been associated with youngsters. In Sydney on Radio 2UW he was co-host with Ross Higgins in the ‘COCA COLA BOTTLER’S CLUB’ – a pre-teen show that was broadcast weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm to 5pm – the three programmes being pre-recorded each Saturday morning. Then Monday through Fridays from 5pm to 6pm on Radio 2UW Iain was featured with Howard Craven in ‘RUMPUS ROOM’ a live show each weekday afternoon for teenagers with teenagers interacting in the Main Studio. Then, in the UK and running parallel to his 25 years of musical evenings at the May Fair Hotel, Iain partnered Ann Rachlin in the afternoons with her highly successful FUN WITH MUSIC®™ sessions in north London where 250 children aged between 3 and 11 (including Prince William and Prince Harry) attended regularly each week and were most entertainingly introduced to great music from the great composers by the greatest musicians available.
Iain played an important part in Ann's concerts for children when he became HECKERTY, Ann's musical zany witch, on stage, singing, dancing and making the children laugh at her zany antics. He performed with Ann at music festivals all over the UK as well as at the Barbican Concert Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra in Ann Rachlin's "Funtasia" 1986 family concert series. Today Heckerty has become an international cartoon character, animated and featured in the new Heckerty for Apps and Book series, designed as a teaching aid to reading and spelling and available from amazon and iTunes. Iain is the composer of the catchy Heckerty Hop theme music for the App and is still connected to the series as composer.
